Feather in InDesign
(Index)
Feather is used to soften the edges of the contents of a frame.
You could almost say that it's a gradient from a picture to transparent, however InDesign's gradient tool is not capable of creating a gradient involving transparencies.
To apply a feather to a a frame:
- Select the arrow tool
.
- Select the object you would like to feather.
- In the menus, select Object -> Feather.
- When the window comes up, check the box that says "Feather".
- Specify the feather width. This is the distance from the edge in that the feather will be applied. If the preview box is checked, then pressing tab after typing in a new feather width will refresh the preview.
- Click OK.
