Gradients in InDesign

In InDesign, a gradient can only be applied to the stroke and/or fill of a frame.
To apply a gradient...
- Click on the arrow tool

- Select the object(s) to which you would like to apply a gradient.
- Decide whether you would like to change the stroke or the fill. Make your selection on the tools palette.
- Now, apply your gradient.
- Follow these steps for an easy point and click.
- Click on the Gradient tool

- Experiment with clicking and dragging. The only requirement is that your target object must be selected.
- To change the colors it uses:
- Click on the Gradient palette.
- Click on the Swatches palette.
- At the bottom of the Swatches palette, there are some buttons. If you leave your mouse on them, InDesign will tell you what they are. Make sure that you are displaying either colors, or colors and gradients.
- Drag color swatches onto the horizontal bar in the middle of the gradient palette. Play around with the sliders on the bar to see what they do.
- Follow these steps for using a preset gradient swatch.
- Click on the Swatches palette.
- At the bottom of the Swatches palette, there are some buttons. If you leave your mouse on them, InDesign will tell you what they are. Make sure that you are displaying either gradients, or colors and gradients.
- Select the gradient swatch of your choice.
