Scanning Pictures
(Index)
Scanning is when you digitize a graphical piece of art. Basically, it involves turning on the scanner and the computer that it's hooked up to, selecting what you want, and pressing the scan button on the computer.
More specifically...
- Turn on the computer.
- Turn on the scanner.
- Place your document face-down in the upper-right corner of the scanner bed.
- Press the action button on the scanner.
- The overview could take several seconds.
- Use the mouse to select the section you would like to scan.
- Set the resolution to a reasonable value.
- 150 dpi is right on the brink of being too low, unless you plan to zoom out, in which case the threshold would be even lower.
- 300 is a good value if you plan to zoom in or preform basic modifications in Photoshop.
- 450 is a good target if you would like a general purpose high resolution scan.
- At 600 and up, you start to get huge file sizes - just warning you. It is useful if you have a tiny image that you plan to blow up, though.
- Type in an intelligent file name.
- Click "Scan".
- After several seconds, the scan will finish, and Photoshop will launch with your document automatically. You're done. The easiest way to copy the file at this point is to do a Save-As from Photoshop.
Done!
